Extracurricular activities, cliques and school systems

Today I showed this picture to your classmates and their job was to find out what our new subject would be...

Here is what they proposed:

- "Maybe we are going to talk about sports."
- "I guess we are going to talk about music."
- "I would say that we are going to talk about the carnival."

...and finally someone came up with the correct answer...

- "I am certain that we are going to talk about hobbies/activities."

So From now on we are going to focus on extracurricular activities (in and out-of-school activities) and we will also learn new things about school in the USA/UK and about groups (cliques) in schools.

WHAT IS THEIR CLASS YEAR?

"I guess they are in high school."
"They may be in high school."
"I would say that they are in high school."

"I think they are at university."
"I imagine they are in college (université)."
"They must be in college."

SCHOOLS IN THE USA
&
SCHOOLS IN THE UK

Dream with me is an american documentary on public schools in the USA:

The following video is about british schools:

HIGH SCHOOL CLIQUES

 WHAT IS A CLIQUE

A CLIQUE IS A GROUP OF TEENAGERS OR STUDENTS WHO GROUP TOGETHER BECAUSE THEY SHARE THE SAME INTERESTS (MUSIC,FASHION,LIFESTYLE...)
TARO TELLS US ABOUT TWO SPECIFIC CLIQUES THAT EXIST IN HIS HIGH SCHOOL.

I WISH...

"I wish I were" est logiquement la formulation correcte mais de plus en plus d'anglo-saxons utilisent la formulation "I wish I was..."

Skee-Lo "I wish" (1996)
LEND AN EAR TO THAT CHORUS:

I wish I was a little bit taller
I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
And a six four Impala

Sandi Thom "I wish I was a punk rocker" (2006)

LEND AN EAR TO THAT CHORUS:

Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In 77 and 69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair

Examples: I am popular but I wish I joined the Jocks!
I am a beauty queen but I wish I were/was a geek!

London trip

On Monday 11th it was snowing a lot and many pupils did not make it to school. Yet we started working on our new subject with the pupils who were present.

So what did we do in class on Monday 11th?

First pupils had to discover our new subject. I showed them three pictures (see below) and then pupils had to imagine what we would be talking about.

Some pupils said:
"I guess we are going to talk about food."
Others imagined:
"I think we are going to talk about the london eye."
